Officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have voiced concerns regarding the continued growth in the visa issuance to citizens of the Russian Federation, characterizing the trend as posing a significant security risk. In a recent statement, representatives indicated strong support for a targeted revision of the Visa Code and expressed anticipation for the Commission’s forthcoming legislative proposal on the matter. Addressing the broader external aspects of migration, the ministry emphasized that the European Union must employ all available mechanisms—including incentives and pressure measures—to encourage greater cooperation from third countries regarding readmission protocols.
According to V. Kondratovich, a key objective for the future stability of the Schengen area involves the restoration of free movement and the gradual elimination of long-term internal border controls. Furthermore, the Minister stressed the necessity of adhering to and fulfilling the priorities that have been mutually agreed upon for the Schengen zone.
These statements underscore ongoing policy discussions surrounding border management and the appropriate regulatory framework for cross-border travel and visa protocols within the bloc.
