VRK postponed the question until the end of July about possible serious violations of “Nemuno aušra” and Žemaitis

The commission intends to revisit this matter on July 30th, following a proposal that garnered unanimous agreement. Representatives from the commission’s investigative body concluded that “Nemuno aušra” may have financed the political campaign for the 2024 parliamentary elections. The investigation suggests that this funding potentially originated from donations made by legal entities, as well as through various third parties, an action deemed a flagrant violation of the Electoral Code.

Furthermore, the review highlighted issues concerning the candidacy of M. Sinkevičius, which reportedly faced opposition citing a lack of recognition regarding the perceived failures of the previous two years. The commission also noted potential legal infractions by the law party itself.

Specifically, the party may have violated regulations by accepting and utilizing member fees amounting to 4.3 thousand euros, some of which were sourced from legal entities and channeled via third parties. The findings of the VRK further indicated that “Nemuno aušra” could have financed the 2024 parliamentary campaign through a third party—specifically naming the party’s deputy chairman and election chairman. These accumulated findings suggest multiple areas of potential non-compliance.

The commission’s scheduled return date in July is set to address these complex allegations concerning campaign finance and adherence to electoral law.
