VSAT: no illegal migrants have been detected on the Lithuanian border for 13 days

On Thursday, the Lithuanian border service reported preventing the entry of 155 migrants into the country, a figure corroborated by Polish officials who stated they had not detected such groups. This incident highlights ongoing border enforcement efforts between Lithuania and Belarus. Reviewing the data reveals a year-over-year comparison in irregular crossings.

Last year, authorities recorded that no more than 1,600 individuals entered Lithuania from Belarus through prohibited locations. In contrast, the current reporting period shows 775 such individuals. Overall, since the migration influx began following the crisis associated with Belarus, approximately 25,300 irregular migrants have been permitted into Lithuania.

The pattern of migrants flooding into Eastern European nations initially emerged in 2021, a situation that drew accusations from Western nations directed at the Belarusian regime. Border security remains a primary focus, with the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) maintaining vigilance along the border shared with Belarus. The statistics underscore the fluctuating nature of border control measures.

While the initial reports indicated a significant number of individuals being stopped from entering, the consistent monitoring demonstrates the ongoing challenges in managing cross-border movements. Authorities continue to track the flow of migrants, ensuring that procedures are followed for anyone attempting to enter the country.
