In an interview with Fact, Julia Novosad, the owner of the restaurant La Trattoria Marcello & Giulia, issued a warning to fellow business owners regarding fraudulent activities. She told the publication that an increasing number of establishments are encountering situations where customers utilize services but subsequently refuse payment. Novosad described a particularly brazen case of financial deception that has caused significant concern.
The incident centered on a booking for a First Communion celebration involving 23 guests. The fraud unfolded with a sequence of seemingly legitimate payments. According to Novosad, the process began when a man initially contacted the restaurant.
He claimed to have transferred an advance payment on May 10th. A day later, on May 11th, he called again, stating the advance payment had been made once more. The final bill was reportedly settled on May 12th.
Novosad expressed considerable frustration with the situation, stating that recovering the funds would be highly unlikely. She noted that the complexity and nature of the non-payment highlighted a growing pattern of consumer exploitation. She added that more businesses are reporting similar instances, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance among the local business community.
The narrative provided by Novosad serves as a cautionary account of how seemingly routine transactions can escalate into significant financial disputes for small business owners.
