VTEK: G. Grybauskas did not confuse interests regarding the draft law on the National Sports Council

The commission investigating potential breaches of the Law on the Balance of Public and Private Interests has cleared Education, Science and Sports Minister G. Grybauskas, according to a report issued Tuesday by Virginija Aleksejūnė, Deputy Chairman of the VTEK. The inquiry focused on whether Grybauskas violated the stipulated law through his involvement in drafting the National Sports Council Law while serving as a vice-minister.

A key point of concern was the law’s relationship to his former professional affiliation, the association “Sport for All.”

Aleksejūnė explained that the commission thoroughly assessed the circumstances surrounding his participation and examined whether any valid connections persisted between the drafting process and the association. The commission ultimately determined that the connections in question had ceased at the beginning of the year, leading the body to conclude that no direct link to the association was established. This development concludes an investigation that the VTEK had previously initiated concerning Grybauskas’ activities dating back to March.

The findings affirm that his actions did not constitute a violation of the established law. The outcome provides clarification regarding the minister’s involvement in matters pertaining to national sports governance. The VTEK’s decision confirms that, based on the evidence reviewed, the concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest in the realm of sports have been mitigated.
