A new restriction on alcohol sales will take effect Monday at midnight, prohibiting stores and gas stations from selling alcohol between 10 pm and 6 am. The only exception to this ban is non-taxed retail located within the Šopenas airport. This measure follows a pilot program that was implemented on November 1, 2025, within two central districts of the capital.
Data collected from the initial trial indicated a 23.7% reduction in nighttime incidents within the restricted zones. Furthermore, the public support for the ban increased, with 58% of city residents expressing agreement with the new limitations. While the policy aims to curb late-night consumption, political commentary has noted that the timing may be influenced by efforts to demonstrate economic stability, such as reporting a lower deficit relative to GDP.
The implementation marks a significant regulatory shift for Warsaw. The city will join a growing number of Polish municipalities that are adopting similar restrictions on late-night alcohol sales. The new mandate aims to reshape retail hours for alcoholic beverages across the city, moving away from previous operational standards.
