A former official who stabbed his uncle with a knife was sent to prison for a long time

The court has sentenced Ivan Karpick to a final suspended sentence of eight years in prison for the charges related to the incident. Following the sentencing, the defendant, who had previously been subjected to milder restraining measures during the trial proceedings, was immediately taken into custody within the courtroom. The sequence of events began on August 27, 2025.

According to reports, Ivan Karpick and his uncle were leaving the train station in Ignalina, where Karpick was reportedly returning home. Initial accounts suggest that the journey proceeded without conflict. However, the situation escalated when Ivan Karpick unexpectedly grabbed his uncle’s arm with his left hand while seated in the front passenger area, thereby restricting the man’s movement.

It was at this point that the use of a prohibited item became central to the incident. Holding a tourist knife, which was banned for civilian use, in his right hand, Ivan Karpick allegedly began inflicting injuries. He reportedly used the knife to cut his uncle’s face and his left hand.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. The court proceedings determined the severity of the actions, resulting in the final sentence handed down to Ivan Karpick.
