A nightmare in France: people killed by falling ice chunks from the sky

Severe weather events have impacted multiple regions of France, leading to fatalities, infrastructure damage, and widespread power outages. In the village of Sen-Vikturnjen, central France, a fire involving a tree resulted in a fatality. Separately, in the southeastern region of Izera, a fire broke out after lightning struck a metal-working workshop, tragically killing the owner.

Due to the anticipated arrival of storms following a prolonged period of heat, authorities declared the second-highest level of danger across 30 administrative districts. The resulting instability has affected daily life for thousands of people. Approximately 53,000 individuals were left without electricity when local power lines collapsed.

Damage from the severe weather was also reported in the southeastern region of Ardecha, where hailstones, comparable in size to tennis balls, damaged hundreds of cars, roofs, and vineyards. These incidents highlight the volatility of the current weather pattern across the country. While the region faced localized disasters, the overarching threat of storms required heightened alert levels across multiple departments.

The combination of extreme heat preceding the storms, coupled with the resulting power grid failures, has significantly disrupted normal life for the local population. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as cleanup and recovery efforts commence following the adverse weather.
