A tragic sight can be seen on the Baltic coast: the tragic fate befell not one but many

The Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched on Monday, June 1st, following a report from port workers regarding an unusual find near the city’s waterfront. At approximately 8:34 a.m., emergency services were called to Vėtros street, specifically to the entrance of the northern mole within the local port. Despite recent rainfall, the day brought an unexpected natural occurrence.

Port representatives alerted authorities after a dead giant seal was washed up on the stones of the mole. The animal was found lying on the structure, weighing an estimated 150 kilograms. The port staff immediately requested assistance to manage the carcass.

Upon arrival at the site, personnel confirmed the seal’s presence on the mole. The situation, while routine for local rescue services, presented a somewhat tragic sight. Following coordination with the port’s management, workers carefully lifted the large seal into a net.

Subsequently, the animal was lowered back into the sea. The incident required the mobilization of local rescue resources to manage the marine debris found on the port’s infrastructure. The swift action ensured the removal of the seal from the mole, returning the area to normal operations.

The event serves as a reminder of the wildlife that interacts with the port environment.
