A trick in the air took Rapolas Micevičius a part of his leg: the trauma led to the Paralympic Games

Rapolas’s existence has long been defined by an active connection to sports. During the warmer months, his routine involves kayaking and instructing others along the Lithuanian coast. In contrast, the winter season takes him to the mountains, where he enjoys snowboarding with his fiancée, Brigita Janiulyte, and their dog, D’Artanjanas.

Five years ago, Rapolas appeared to have achieved a comprehensive lifestyle, boasting a career, personal property, and an engaging athletic routine. However, this trajectory shifted dramatically in October 2021. On what was a routine day, Rapolas was windsurfing and attempting a complex aerial maneuver.

Due to unexpectedly strong winds, he was thrown from an approximate height of ten meters. The incident resulted in severe injuries, specifically fractures to both of his legs. Following the accident, Rapolas faced a prolonged period of recovery, spending nearly a year confined to the hospital.

This period represented a stark deviation from his previously vibrant life. The accident fundamentally altered the course of his life. While his passion for physical activity remains evident in his current endeavors, the recovery process presented a significant challenge to his former athletic capabilities.

The narrative highlights the abrupt transition from an active, established life to one defined by rehabilitation, marking a profound turning point in his journey.
