After the wave of criticism, the “Socdems” changed their minds: they are no longer supporting R. Baranovas, but the candidate of the Minister who is about to retire

V. Kondratovičius, who is a member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) Vilnius District Committee, faced immediate professional changes. Notably, he is not a member of the Seimas.

His duties within the Ministry of Internal Affairs are set to conclude on Tuesday, the day after the swearing-in ceremony for new ministers, effectively removing him from his current role. Meanwhile, R. Baranov declined to offer detailed commentary regarding the unfolding political situation, stating that further explanations would be provided during a press conference scheduled for the afternoon in Parliament.

Kondratovičius echoed a cautious tone, remarking, “I can’t say. I don’t know yet. We will find out soon.”

The Supreme Election Commission (VRK) addressed questions concerning R.

Baranov’s candidacy, specifically his participation in the Nalšia region within the northern district. The commission expressed surprise regarding this candidacy. When pressed on whether he had received a proposal from party leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius, Baranov stated that he would not comment on the matter.

The VRK was subsequently questioned about the rationale behind R. Baranov running in the Nalšia region. These developments underscore a period of political transition and scrutiny regarding key personnel and electoral ambitions.
