Explosive demolition operation in Kėdainiai: miners neutralized 1,400 anti-tank projectiles

On August 5, the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department reported multiple security and demining operations across different regions. A significant incident was reported when the department received notification from the Kaunas County Police Department regarding the activation of “Plan Skydas” in Pilionių village, located within the Dotnuvos administrative unit of the Kėdainiai district. Firefighters were dispatched to the site to manage the situation.

During these coordinated efforts, local miners played a key role in securing the area. They successfully collected an estimated 1,400 detonators from anti-tank grenades. These collected explosives were subsequently transported to the Gaižiūnai firing range for safe disposal and destruction.

The department confirmed that these demining activities are part of ongoing efforts to secure various locations. Earlier on the same day, at approximately 9:30 AM, firefighters from Marijampolė were deployed to Patašinės seniūnija, in Dambavos village, also in response to the implementation of Plan “Skydas.”

These incidents highlight the multi-faceted response required from emergency services. The Fire and Rescue Department continues to manage various specialized missions, including supporting smaller-scale demining operations across the region.

The coordinated involvement of police, fire services, and specialized personnel underscores the ongoing commitment to public safety and hazard mitigation in the area.
