Ingrida Alonderė: “Anger is like a musical sound that you feel all over your body”

Musicologist Ingrida Alonderė has shifted her focus to explore the role of musical instruments in expressing human emotions with her debut book, I’m Angry, That’s Why I’m Here, published by BALTO. The work delves into the mechanics of emotional expression through sound, offering a framework for understanding intense feelings. Alonderė suggests that redirecting one’s feelings of anger can be transformative, asserting that a reduction in self-criticism allows an individual to fully engage with real life.

In an interview with the author’s editor, Ana Treščia, Alonderė reflected on the pivotal moment she first recognized the depth of her own feelings, specifically when she clearly identified, “I feel a huge anger.” A recipient of the Culture Minister’s award and a notable resident of Panevėžė, her professional activities are deeply rooted in cherishing and disseminating ethnoculture. She recounted that her initial perception of herself was markedly different from her later understanding. For many years, she was convinced that she did not struggle with anger.

Instead, she viewed herself as a considerate, calm, and responsible person, observing the intensity of emotion primarily in others. This self-perception, she notes, was inaccurate. The journey of self-discovery revealed a complex internal landscape.

Alonderė’s writing, therefore, serves not only as an academic exploration of musical theory but also as a personal testament to the necessity of acknowledging and processing difficult emotions, showing how one can learn to like the journey of self-acceptance.
