Latvian intelligence sends a warning signal: Russians may take action

Lithuanian security services have assessed a potential for Russia to conduct hybrid attacks and provocations against the Baltic states in the near future. These actions are reportedly intended to exert psychological pressure on NATO member countries, their officials, and the general public. According to the security service, the objective of this heightened pressure would be to encourage NATO nations to diminish their support for Ukraine or to consider making concessions to Russia.

This alleged strategy would be framed against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the possibility of a diplomatic resolution. The security service further noted that Russia has recently escalated its psychological and information campaigns targeting Western nations with the aim of achieving these objectives. This concern is underscored by recent statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who acknowledged that Ukraine’s retaliation “suffers from a certain deficiency.”

The Lithuanian intelligence assessment indicates that the probability of such provocations emanating from Russia could be quite high.

The focus remains on the potential for information warfare and destabilization efforts aimed at influencing the foreign policy decisions of NATO members.
