The three-day “Buzelis Cup” basketball event commenced on Friday at the “Active Arena” in Vilnius, anticipating competition from 100 teams representing 12 nations. This year’s tournament marks a significant expansion compared to its early years, demonstrating considerable growth in both the caliber of play and participant numbers, escalating from just 6 teams in its inaugural year to over 100 teams currently. A notable addition to the “Buzelis Cup” festival this year was the hosting of a conference.

This event provided both participants and spectators a unique gathering point for several prominent Lithuanian basketball figures, including Matas Buzelis, Jonas Valančius, Robertas Javtokas, and Mindaugas Kuzminskas. R. Skaisgirys highlighted the significance of the “Buzelis Cup’26” for the advancement of Lithuanian basketball, stating the necessity of remaining competitive on a global level.

Regarding the conference, he noted that it maintained the same core participants and objectives as in previous years. The event continues to showcase the growing stature of the Buzelis tournament, solidifying its place on the international basketball calendar.
