Scammers took about 48,300 euros from four people

Multiple reports have emerged regarding scams targeting vulnerable residents in Vilnius, involving individuals posing as authority figures. Authorities have received multiple calls to attention concerning fraudulent activities perpetrated against elderly women in the city. On Thursday, one woman, born in 1938, contacted the Vilnius Regional Police Department to report an incident from the previous day.

She stated that on Wednesday afternoon in Vilnius, she was approached at her residence by unknown individuals who communicated in Russian. These perpetrators allegedly deceived her by falsely claiming to be both medical professionals and police officers. According to the Police Department’s report, the woman surrendered twelve thousand euros to the man who visited her home.

Adding to the concerns, another woman, born in 1947, contacted the Vilnius 3rd Police Department on Thursday. She highlighted a pattern of scams, sharing a specific warning. A 79-year-old woman recounted an experience from Tuesday in Vilnius, where she was contacted at home by an unknown woman.

This scammer spoke Russian and falsely identified herself as a police officer, successfully misleading the woman. These incidents underscore a recurring theme: the impersonation of law enforcement or medical personnel to defraud residents. Authorities are urging all women in Vilnius to exercise extreme caution.

Residents are advised never to grant money or personal information based solely on the verbal claims of unknown callers, regardless of what uniform or official credentials they claim to possess.
