The Lithuanian industry’s expectations after four months of decline in July stabilized

The Production Levels Index (PLI) for Lithuania experienced a notable fluctuation recently. In March, the index reached 51.15 points, marking the highest level recorded this year. However, the index has since shown a steady decline, dropping by 3.5 points over the preceding four months.

Addressing the trend, Vidmantas Janulevičius, president of the Lithuanian National Bank, cautioned against premature declarations of recovery. He noted that while expectations have been falling for four months, a single month’s performance is insufficient to confirm that the industry has fully resumed its growth trajectory. He stated that the future performance of Lithuanian manufacturers will remain contingent upon the recovery of export markets, investment activity across Europe, and the nation’s overall competitiveness.

Despite the broader concerns, the data for July presented some positive indicators. The production of computers, electronic, and optical products recorded the most optimistic figures, causing the PLI to rise to 63.35 points. Furthermore, the production levels for metal products and other non-metallic mineral products were reported as stabilizing, aligning with the neutral line.

Overall, while the recent figures suggest some improvement, experts maintain that the sustained return to growth for the Lithuanian economy requires continued positive developments in global trade and investment.
